Votiva Q & A

What is Votiva?

Votiva is a safe, non-surgical treatment for vaginal rejuvenation It’s designed to address many of the changes affecting vaginal health, wellness, and external appearance that occur throughout the years.

The Votiva procedure utilizes radiofrequency (RF) technology to repair vaginal and labial tissues. Radiofrequency is a gentle form of energy that doesn’t disrupt or damage surrounding tissues and won’t compromise any function. It stimulates collagen and elastin production to restore the integrity of the tissues resulting in tightening of the vaginal canal and decreased sagging and wrinkled appearance of the labia and vulvar tissues.  It also promotes blood circulation and stimulates targeted muscles to restore their tightness and strength.  In doing so, it also improves mild to moderate stress urinary incontinence or involuntary loss of urine. This is a major difference from other technologies, such as the Mona Lisa Touch, which cannot deliver this kind of result due to their very different technology.

Surgical treatments with similar goals, like vaginoplasty and labiaplasty, come with pain and higher risks,  and require a considerable amount of downtime at home for recovery. With Votiva, there is no downtime.

Is Votiva right for me?

Dr. Yung first meets with you for a confidential discussion about your vaginal health and wellness concerns.

Major changes to your body throughout life often contribute to a loss of sensation and/ or function in your vaginal muscles and tissues. Just like the rest of your body, these areas tend to lose collagen and elastin as you age.

Dr. Yung may recommend Votiva as a treatment option if your concerns include:

  • Vaginal laxity or loss of vaginal tightening
  • Decreased or loss of vaginal muscle tone, strength, and control
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Pain during sexual intercourse
  • Stress urinary incontinence
  • Decreased sensation and stimulation during sexual intercourse

Experiencing these symptoms can result in a loss of sexual drive and satisfaction. Issues like these commonly affect post-menopausal women because of a general decline in estrogen, but some women experience them earlier because of changes related to pregnancy, childbirth, or weight loss.

What should I expect during the Votiva procedure?

Treatment with Votiva takes place in Dr. Yung’s office as an outpatient procedure. The handheld Votiva FormaV wand might cause some mild discomfort if vaginal dryness is one of your primary symptoms, but generally, it doesn’t cause any pain. Dr. Yung directs the energy from the wand to your internal vaginal canal as well as your external labia.

The Votiva FractoraV handpiece works differently. It’s designed to improve the outward appearance of your labia minora and majora by delivering deep radiofrequency energy with microneedling. Tiny needles create microchannels in the skin, and the handpiece emits radiofrequency into deeper tissues within to stimulate collagen remodeling.

You’ll feel a warm sensation throughout the procedure. Once the treatment is complete, you can return home right away with no downtime.

How Many Sessions Are Required?

In consultation with Dr. Yung, a treatment plan will be customized for you. The majority of patients have 2-3 sessions, however, most notice a difference after only 1 treatment. The number of sessions depends on your treatment concerns, your personal goals, and if you plan to use a combination treatment or a single treatment approach.
